Construction, Real Estate and Climate Change

This webinar is organised by the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI) as a special session to have an in-depth discussion about real estate and how it’s changing in light of governments’ attempts to tackle climate change.

Global warming is the single greatest environmental challenge that the world is currently facing. A wide range of human activities is responsible for this rise in temperature, with construction and real estate being among the most important contributors of greenhouse gas emissions. This JVI Webinar will shed some light on the range of links between construction, real estate, and climate change. More specifically, we will look at the overall contribution of construction and real estate to the emission of greenhouse gas and the role that ‘green finance’ can play in limiting the climate footprint of construction and housing. In addition, we will look at policy options to reduce the contribution of construction and real estate to climate change. What are the climate-related adaptation requirements for the existing housing stock and how can taxes and subsidies contribute to a sustainable balance between climate change and housing affordability?
