How will the rise of ESG affect the real estate sector in 2023?

The winter of 2022-2023 will bring new challenges: from rising energy prices to costs of living and greater inflation, European governments will have to navigate their way through a range of problems. The issues of energy efficiency and energy use will remain in focus, and the pressure to lower both emissions and energy usage will grow. How will this influence the real estate sector and the wider markets?

This session will explore the latest developments in the sector, and what pressures it might face in the short to medium and long-term. The participants will hear about the most dominant economic and sustainability trends affecting the financing of real estate development, and how the ongoing war in Ukraine might impact European industries, economies and the real estate sector. The discussion will zoom in on the following topics:

  • What the current economic and financial situation means for business and the sector? What are the key issues or risks to be aware of?

  • What exactly does ESG mean in practice and what are its key challenges and opportunities in real estate? (and CEE)

  • Is ESG a trend or a fad, or will it be used for decision making in finance and business? And if yes, how?

  • What are the key standard setting initiatives or developments in the ESG space that will influence the indicators and data?

  • Has the war in Ukraine and the rising inflation concerns impacted progress on ESG integration in the past years?

  • Can ESG investing be leveraged for improved financing, or what other benefits can it bring in terms of value retention or diversification?
